Code Red
Lunenburg County has recently instituted a Citizens' Alerting System called Code Red. This system provides the ability to deliver messages to citizens in a short period of time. Along with this system, there is an optional weather alert feature that will notify you of severe thunderstorm warnings, tornado warnings, and flash flood warnings. These notifications are only sent to residents in the effected warning areas. Alerts will only be sent for WARNINGS, not for WATCHES.The Community Notification Enrollment page allows you to enter multiple home and cell phone numbers through which to receive these warnings and messages. This system also has capabilities for TDD communications for the hearing impaired.
The Code Red System was utilized on May 6, 2009 to relay the tornado warning declared by the National Weather Service. Your enrollment in this provides us with accurate numbers so that weather alerts can be delivered more efficiently.
IF YOU DO NOT WANT TO RECEIVE THESE NOTICES, THERE IS ALSO AN OPT-OUT SECTION ON THE BOTTOM OF THE WEB PAGE LINK LISTED BELOW. If you have any questions regarding this program, please contact Rodney Newton at 434-447-9715. Also, please help us by forwarding this message to other Lunenburg County residents that you have in your email address book.
